Marseille Striker Loic Remy Still Hoping For Future Premier League Switch
Marseile striker Loic Remy is still keen on realising a dream move to the English Premier League despite signing for the Ligue 1 champions earlier this summer.
The newly minted French international had attracted strong summer interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham United before the former Nice strker eventually completed a €15 million (£13.1m) move to Marseille.
Much of the failure to land up in England was due to the fact that Nice had only received acceptable offers from West Ham and Stoke, two clubs that Remy was not interested in joining as the striker preferred to join a club that could offer him Champions League football.
Spurs came closest to meeting that from England shores but they failed to agree a fee with Nice, while manager Harry Redknapp suffered from cold feet after failing to offloand Robbie Keane to free up more space for an additional striker.
Remy has since impressed with Marseille and also for France, with his first international goal coming earlier this month against Romania in a Euro 2012 qualifier. The player’s agent, Frederic Guerra, has iterated his client’s desire to one day play in the Premier League.
Guerra said: “Remy still has a dream to play in England and I am certain he will be a very good player in English football.
“He had many options in England in the summer – there were four or five clubs who wanted him – but he was happy to sign for Marseille.
“I think he had to make a decision for his whole career and that means staying in France for another year or two years.
“Every time I watch him he reminds me of Thierry Henry, he has excellent characteristics. He is quick, skilful and he can score many goals. He can be a huge success in the Premier League.
“When he next has a transfer I think he will go to a top club on a high level – that it was we hope for.”
